A major thrust of the CPARC is to create a centre with the necessary expertise to develop the next generation technologies.
In particle astrophysics, cutting-edge technologies are required for all aspects of the experiment, from developing ultra-low background materials and techniques, to new methods for photo-detection, to advanced computing and data-management technologies, to developing the methods to construct large complex detectors in a very deep, challenging environment.
Advancing these technologies is also of commercial interest. There is a significant ongoing effort required to develop techniques for measuring very low levels of activity in nuclear and environmental monitoring programs, for advanced photodetectors for the medical industry, for numerous computing applications, and for mining applications in ever deeper sites.
