SNOLAB Experiment: NEWS-G
New Experiment With Spheres-Gas (NEWS-G) is a new technology with commercial and dark matter applications being pursued by CERC Chair G. Gerbier at Queen's in collaboration with international partners.
The experiment will be uniquely sensitive to low mass dark matter particles using gaseous detectors containing low atomic mass gases. The goal is to access masses as low as 100 MeV with high sensitivity. The apparatus will be a 1.4 m diameter spherical detector made of ultrapure copper.
Financial support exists, and the project is seeking approval to be located within SNOLAB in 2016. This experiment will benefit greatly from CPARC research capability with detector development and radiochemical expertise.
